Joaquin Medina Villena

I was born in Padul (Granada, Spain).

I have been a teacher at the University of Granada for more than 30 years, dealing mainly with subjects related to the use of new technologies in music, in official studies in History and Sciences of Music or Musicology. Most of the time I have combined this teaching with work as a senior technician in the Computer Services of the aforementioned university, being linked to that entity for more than 36 years.

My musical activity has been mainly focused on electroacoustic and contemporary music.

I have studied electroacoustic and computer music composition with professor Gabriel Brncic in the “Gabinete de Música Electroacústica” of Cuenca, Spain.

I have also cultivated other musical genres, mainly Latin American folk music, and within this, especially the music of the Andean mountain range.

My works have been disseminated in Spain and in various countries such as Greece, Brazil, Cuba or Mexico. I have received orders from various entities. I have also served as "Technical Coordinator" of the Electroacoustic Music concerts at the Granada Music and Dance Festival. I have also collaborated on documentary soundtracks, and I have composed music for theater, obtaining some awards in this section. I have also been interested in the theremin, and have composed and performed various works for this instrument.
